Ontario: It's Regions, Cultures and History Through Song is designed as an audio/visual pot pourri that through seven or eight songs will introduce students from Kindergarten to Grade 8 to various aspects of life in the rich and diverse province in which they live. While the show has been conceived as a forty-five minute assembly that is both lively and entertaining, the choice of songs, narrative and pre- and post-show teaching guides have been carefully designed to meet a variety of goals outlined in the Ministry of Education's publication "The Ontario Curriculum: Social Studies Grades 1 to 6; History and Geography Grades 7 and 8." The result is a program that will invest students with a sense of pride in (1) the accomplishments of various historically important individuals and (2) the creative abilities of a number of Ontario musicians while at the same time deepening the students' knowledge of selected aspects of Ontario culture. |
